NaBloPoMo Prompt for the day:
When you are writing, do you prefer to use a pen or a computer?
While I continue to debate if I prefer pen or keyboard for taking notes in class, there’s no doubt that when it really comes to the writing process that the computer is the way for me. One of the best things I ever learned in my life was how to type correctly. When I’m on a role, I can type a good 130 WPM, which seems to be pretty close to the speed I think, so I’m able to just pour brain-dump right into the computer. I can’t imagine drafting research papers by hand. Just not my style. First of all, I’m not a fan of my handwriting, and if I do want it to be legible for later, I can’t write very quickly, which is not advantageous when the ideas are flowing. I also tend to move my main points around a lot as I’m drafting, so copy+paste is a good friend of mine. How about you?
Pen, preferably fountain or fine point. Finding the perfect writing implement is an adventure for me, because I write smallish and my handwriting can be chaotic. Plus, I want a decent ink that won’t bleed or smear easily. I’ve found the perfect fountain pen, and a good set of ink. Now, if only I could find a way to make the perfect pen download into the computer so I wouldn’t have to type my drafts as well.
