A friend of mine just shared this video of one of my favorite instructors at Pacifica. What a treasure! Ginette Paris has so much insight and is just an amazing individual to learn from. Here she discusses ideas from her book La Vida Interior (Wisdom of the Psyche), which I consider one of the most profound books I’ve read. She also gives a great overview of Depth Psychology (that important underlying element in my PhD program in Mythological Studies with an emphasis in Depth Psychology).
Enjoy!
You know, she almost lost my interest at the start there with the “..doesn’t present itself as a scientific approach to the life of the psyche.”
But then as she explained more in terms of participation and story I got where she was going. I’d completely agree that the “medicalization of existential problems” doesn’t necessarily solve the real problems. I can see how she would be a good teacher.
This got me thinking about some personal ideas I’ve been playing around with lately. I’ve been, for lack of a better way of putting this, emotionally retarded about a lot of things in my life. As a result, it does feel sometimes like I’m not really taking part in my own story, or writing my own story, as it were.
Thanks, m-g. I think I have another book to add to my Christmas list.
Glad you kept watching after it almost lost you! Good stuff here.
